Who is responsible for your data?

This site is run by an individual as an independent project. It is not yet a registered company, so there is no company number or registered address to give — this page will be updated when that changes. For UK GDPR purposes the site operator is the data controller and can be reached at hello@getcalculating.com. Use that address for any privacy or data-protection question.

What data is collected right now?

Almost none, unless you create an account. Every calculator works without one, and without an account the numbers you type are not sent to the site or saved anywhere except your own browser. There are no comments. If you do create an account, the site also holds your account details and the calculations saved to it, described in the next section.

Three forms send an email through Resend, and only when you press their send button. Report a problem, under a calculator, sends us your message, the email address you give (only if you choose to), and that calculator's inputs and result, so we can see exactly what you saw. Besides arriving as an email, that report is stored in our database, with its date and a status we use to track it, until we delete it; it is read only by the site's operators, and if you would like yours deleted, email hello@getcalculating.com. Answering "Was this calculator useful?" sends nothing on its own. The form on the contact page sends us your name, email address and message, so we can reply. Email this result, for account holders, sends a calculation's inputs, result and link to the address you enter, naming you and using your address for replies.

The site is hosted on Vercel, which automatically keeps standard server logs — your IP address, the time of the request, the page requested and your browser's user-agent string — for security, abuse prevention and reliability. Those logs are held by Vercel under Vercel's privacy policy and are not used to build a profile of you.

Calculators may save your preferences — such as your chosen currency or a metric/imperial setting — in your browser's local storage. That stays on your device, is never transmitted, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

The same goes for the calculators you opened most recently, which never leave your browser. If you are signed in, a copy of your favourites and a count of how many calculations you have saved are kept there too, so the page can show them without asking; the favourites themselves are stored with your account, as described below, and the copy is cleared when you sign out.

If you press Save to My calculations without an account, that one calculation (the values you entered and the result you were shown) is kept in your browser's local storage, and nowhere else. When you sign up or sign in on the same browser it is saved to your account and removed from the browser. A later Save replaces it.

What is stored if I create an account?

An account is optional. If you create one, this is what is stored and where.

• Account details. Your email address and your name, as you gave them when you signed up or as Google provides them if you sign in with Google (which can include the address of your Google profile photo). Sign-in is handled by Supabase: your password goes straight to them and this site does not store it.
• Your sign-in session. Kept in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in, or in session storage if you untick Remember me. It is not a cookie.
• Saved calculations. For each one: which calculator, the values you entered, the result you were shown, the version of the calculator and any rates it used, and when it was saved. You can give a saved calculation a name, and that is stored too.
• Favourite calculators. Which calculators you have starred, and when, up to 50. Nothing you entered or any result is stored with a favourite. Favourites need an account: without one, the star takes you to sign up.

A calculation is saved when you press Save to My calculations while you are signed in, or when you sign in after pressing it as a visitor (see above). Nothing is saved otherwise, unless you switch on automatic saving in My dashboard, which then saves a calculation as you work; it is off until you do, and you can switch it off again at any time. Some calculators ask for health information, such as height and weight or a due date. If you use one while signed in and save the calculation, those entries are stored with it.

Your saved calculations and favourites can be read only by the account that saved them. The site operator has administrator access to the database that holds them. The newest 100 saved calculations are kept for each account, and older ones are removed as new ones are saved. You can delete any of them, and remove any favourite, yourself in My dashboard. To have your account and everything saved to it deleted, email hello@getcalculating.com.

Accounts, sign-in, saved calculations and favourites are provided by Supabase, which holds them under Supabase's privacy policy.

Does the site use cookies?

Only if you let it. When the site loads it sets no cookies. The one non-essential use is Google Analytics, and its cookies are set only after you press Accept on the cookie banner.

The banner appears on your first visit with two equally weighted choices, Accept and Reject:

• Reject, or ignoring the banner, means no analytics script loads, no request goes to Google, and no analytics cookie is set.
• Accept loads Google Analytics, which then sets the cookies described below.

Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage and reused on later visits, so the banner does not return. To change it, use the Cookie settings link in the footer — it reopens the banner. Choosing Reject there stops Analytics loading on your next page view and clears its cookies. Deleting this site's browsing data also resets the choice.

Calculator preferences such as currency or a metric/imperial setting are kept in local storage too, not in cookies, and are never sent to a server.

A calculator embedded on another website sets no cookies at all. It has no cookie banner, no analytics and no sign-in, and it keeps nothing in your browser's storage. The website it is embedded on has its own privacy policy.

Google Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how it is used. It loads only after you accept analytics cookies on the banner described above; until then it is not on the page at all. Once active, it uses cookies and similar identifiers to record information such as:

• how many people visit and which calculators they use;
• what you do with a calculator: whether you open one, start it, get a result, hit an error, save it, share it or download its PDF. This is recorded against the calculator's name and version, with the names of any boxes that had an error, and never the numbers or text you type;
• which pages they enter and leave from, and how long they stay;
• an approximate location (country or city) derived from a truncated IP address;
• the type of device, browser and operating system, and the site or search that referred you.

This is aggregate measurement, not individual profiling, and IP addresses are shortened by Google before being stored. You can withdraw consent at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to opt out on every site, or clear this site's cookies in your browser. Google's handling of the data is described in Google's privacy policy.

Google AdSense and advertising (planned)

The site plans to show ads through Google AdSense, or a comparable Google advertising service, to cover running costs. When ads are live:

• Google and its advertising partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this site and others (personalised advertising).
• Where personalised ads are not permitted or not consented to, non-personalised ads are shown instead — these still use a cookie for frequency capping and fraud prevention, but not to profile you.
• UK and EU visitors are asked for consent before personalised-ad cookies are set, through the cookie notice.

You can review and turn off personalised advertising from Google in your Google Ad Settings, and manage advertising cookies from many companies at optout.aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu. Google explains how it uses cookies in advertising at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

What is the legal basis for processing?

Server logs kept by the host rely on legitimate interests — keeping the site secure and available. Analytics and advertising cookies rely on your consent, given through the cookie notice, which you can withdraw at any time by changing your choices there or clearing the site's cookies in your browser.

Your account details, saved calculations and favourites are used to provide the account and the saving you asked for. Nothing else is stored with a saved calculation or a favourite, and none of it is used for advertising or analytics. A problem report is kept so we can find and fix what it describes, and it is stored until we delete it.

What are your rights?

Under UK GDPR you can ask what personal data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to processing, or ask for processing to be restricted. If you have an account, you can already see, rename and delete your saved calculations, and remove favourites, in My dashboard and change your name in Account settings. Anything else, including deleting your account or a copy of the data held about you, is by email, and requests about server logs or the analytics and advertising data held by the providers above go the same way.

Email hello@getcalculating.com and your request will be answered within one month. If you are not satisfied with the response you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Who else is involved?

• Vercel — hosting and server logs.
• Google — analytics (after you accept cookies); sign-in with Google, if you choose it; advertising once it is enabled.
• Supabase — accounts, sign-in, saved calculations, favourites and problem reports.
• Resend — sending problem reports, contact messages, emailed results and account emails (Resend's privacy policy).

Changes to this policy

This policy will be updated as the site adds analytics and advertising, changes hosting, or becomes a registered business. The "last updated" date near the top reflects the most recent change. For anything unclear, contact hello@getcalculating.com or use the contact page.
