Who is responsible for your data?

This site is run by an individual as an independent project. It is not yet a registered company, so there is no company number or registered address to give — this page will be updated when that changes. For UK GDPR purposes the site operator is the data controller and can be reached at hello@getcalculating.com. Use that address for any privacy or data-protection question.

What data is collected right now?

Almost none. The site is static and has no accounts, no login, no comments and no contact form, so there is nothing to submit and nothing stored about you on the site itself.

The site is hosted on Vercel, which automatically keeps standard server logs — your IP address, the time of the request, the page requested and your browser's user-agent string — for security, abuse prevention and reliability. Those logs are held by Vercel under Vercel's privacy policy and are not used to build a profile of you.

Calculators may save your preferences — such as your chosen currency or a metric/imperial setting — in your browser's local storage. That stays on your device, is never transmitted, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

Does the site use cookies?

Only if you let it. When the site loads it sets no cookies. The one non-essential use is Google Analytics, and its cookies are set only after you press Accept on the cookie banner.

The banner appears on your first visit with two equally weighted choices, Accept and Reject:

• Reject, or ignoring the banner, means no analytics script loads, no request goes to Google, and no analytics cookie is set.
• Accept loads Google Analytics, which then sets the cookies described below.

Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage and reused on later visits, so the banner does not return. To change it, use the Cookie settings link in the footer — it reopens the banner. Choosing Reject there stops Analytics loading on your next page view and clears its cookies. Deleting this site's browsing data also resets the choice.

Calculator preferences such as currency or a metric/imperial setting are kept in local storage too, not in cookies, and are never sent to a server.

Google Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how it is used. It loads only after you accept analytics cookies on the banner described above; until then it is not on the page at all. Once active, it uses cookies and similar identifiers to record information such as:

• how many people visit and which calculators they use;
• which pages they enter and leave from, and how long they stay;
• an approximate location (country or city) derived from a truncated IP address;
• the type of device, browser and operating system, and the site or search that referred you.

This is aggregate measurement, not individual profiling, and IP addresses are shortened by Google before being stored. You can withdraw consent at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to opt out on every site, or clear this site's cookies in your browser. Google's handling of the data is described in Google's privacy policy.

Google AdSense and advertising (planned)

The site plans to show ads through Google AdSense, or a comparable Google advertising service, to cover running costs. When ads are live:

• Google and its advertising partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this site and others (personalised advertising).
• Where personalised ads are not permitted or not consented to, non-personalised ads are shown instead — these still use a cookie for frequency capping and fraud prevention, but not to profile you.
• UK and EU visitors are asked for consent before personalised-ad cookies are set, through the cookie notice.

You can review and turn off personalised advertising from Google in your Google Ad Settings, and manage advertising cookies from many companies at optout.aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu. Google explains how it uses cookies in advertising at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

What is the legal basis for processing?

Server logs kept by the host rely on legitimate interests — keeping the site secure and available. Analytics and advertising cookies rely on your consent, given through the cookie notice, which you can withdraw at any time by changing your choices there or clearing the site's cookies in your browser.

What are your rights?

Under UK GDPR you can ask what personal data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to processing, or ask for processing to be restricted. Because the site holds no account data, most requests will concern server logs or the analytics and advertising data held by the providers above.

Email hello@getcalculating.com and your request will be answered within one month. If you are not satisfied with the response you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

• Google — analytics (after you accept cookies); advertising once it is enabled.

Changes to this policy

This policy will be updated as the site adds analytics and advertising, changes hosting, or becomes a registered business. The "last updated" date near the top reflects the most recent change. For anything unclear, contact hello@getcalculating.com or use the contact page.
