Weight Change Calculator
Enter a starting weight and current weight to calculate the numerical weight change and percentage change. You can optionally enter a selected weight to see the arithmetic difference and progress from your starting weight.
Result
- Amount changed
- 6.0 kg decrease
- Current weight as a share of starting weight
- 93.3% of starting weight
Selected-weight comparison
4.0 kg above selected weight
60% of the distance from starting to selected weight
Reference milestone
5%–9.9% decrease from starting weight
These are numerical reference milestones only. They do not assess whether a weight change is intentional, appropriate, healthy or safe for you.
Calculation only. This tool shows the numerical change between the weights entered. It does not assess whether weight change is intentional, appropriate, healthy or safe for you, and it does not diagnose a health condition.
Weight changes can have many causes. If weight loss is unintentional, rapid, ongoing or concerning—or if you are pregnant, under 18, have a history of an eating disorder, or have a medical condition or take medicines that affect weight—seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
How to use this calculator
- Enter your starting weight, and pick its unit — kilograms, pounds, or stones and pounds.
- Enter your current weight, in the same range of units.
- Optionally enter a selected weight in the same unit as your current weight. It is used only for the arithmetic comparison below.
- Read the weight change from your starting weight, the amount changed, your current weight as a share of the starting weight, and the neutral reference milestone.
- Read the "Calculation only" limitation below the results before drawing any conclusion.

How weight change is calculated
The calculator converts all weights to a common unit before comparing them. It then calculates the numerical difference and percentage change from the starting weight.
A negative result represents a decrease from the starting weight; a positive result represents an increase. Direction, the reference milestone, and every selected-weight comparison are decided from the raw converted values before any display rounding. The selected-weight comparison is optional and is arithmetic only — it is not a recommendation or a timeframe.
Worked example. Starting at 90 kg and now at 84 kg, the weight change is 84 − 90 = −6 kg, which is −6 ÷ 90 × 100 = 6.7% decrease — in the 5%–9.9% reference milestone. Your current weight is 84 ÷ 90 × 100 = 93.3% of the starting weight. With a selected weight of 80 kg, your current weight is 4.0 kg above it, and you have moved 60% of the distance from the starting weight to the selected weight.
